I solved this eventually, but if you asked me to tell you how, I have no idea how I did it. However, initially the system would not acknowledge the presence of the CD/DVD drive. This was solved by installing the HP software provided with the printer on disk. I had problems too, installing my printer, an HP C8180. Here "Help" and the Manual were not of much use. Not being a computer 'geek', I didn't and still don't, fully understand all the acronyms and abbreviations used during the installation process. These days the concept of having a comprehensive index, seems to have been thrown out of the proverbial window.
There is a manual, but it's 243 pages long, printing it out a long slow process, reading it even longer, and as usual very difficult to find one's current query or snag in a hurry. Here on the "Help" for VirtualBox, for the complete novice like me, the system is not so good. not done without initial trepidation as it was not made clear anywhere that during the process the already installed Windows XP and the associated software would not be affected by the upgrading process. The upgrading of VirtualBox from version 2.1.4 to version 2.2.0 was wonderfully easy, BUT. It is early days yet, and there may be problems down the road, but for the regular day to day use so far, all is going well. THE problem with "BootCamp was the, slow, oh so slow, opening of the system, and the inability to jump back to the Mac system with the ease that is possible with "VirtualBox".
With the exception of "BootCamp, this was not so with the other two setups. Using Windows under VirtualBox it is as if I am using a real straight Windows machine and, so far all the commands in my software running on XP seem to operate as normal. Again I was unable to find an easy method with the other setups.ģ. I am able to move files between the two systems with relative ease, using "Cut & Paste". This I was not able to do with the other three.Ģ. I can jump from the Windows system to the Mac system almost at the click of a mouse. I have found "VirtualBox" to be the most stable and FOR ME the best, so far.ġ.
On my Intel iMac, I have tried running Windows XP(SP3) using "BootCamp", "Parallels", "CrossOver", and now "VirtualBox". This is hoping that you see this after so many months have gone by since your posting.
